As part of our Renewal from the Heartland, Archbishop Shawn McKnight invites all throughout the Archdiocese to consider enthroning the Sacred Heart of Jesus in their homes and renewing their trust in Christ’s love and mercy. This invitation takes on a special significance with the U.S. Bishops’ historic consecration of our nation to the Sacred Heart of Jesus that occurred on June 11, in anticipation of America’s 250th anniversary. We are also invited to respond personally by placing the Sacred Heart at the center of our homes and family life.

The Archdiocese of Kansas City in Kansas has assembled several resources that may be adapted to fit the needs of your faith community. This includes a worship aid and a Sacred Heart image generously donated by local artist Jason Jenicke, though another image may be used for home enthronement.

• Home Enthronement: Families are encouraged to place Christ at the center of their home life. Enthroning an image of the Sacred Heart strengthens the domestic church.
• Local Sacred Artwork: Local artist Jason Jenicke has generously donated a Sacred Heart artwork piece. It serves as a beautiful focal point for home enthronements.

We would like to invite all the men to join us for a special Lenten Series beginning Ash Wednesday through Wednesday of Easter. We will meet at 6 am on Ash Wednesday for coffee and prayer. Please prayerfully consider volunteering for our Liturgical Ministries. We are in need of Ministers of Hospitality, Rosary Leaders, Extraordinary Minister of Holy Communion (EMHC), Lectors, Sacristans, Servers, Cantors, Musicians, Communion to the Homebound. Training is provided when necessary. Please call the office and see how you can help us make our Masses beautiful.

First Friday Devotion

The First Friday Devotion to the Sacred Heart of Jesus is rooted in the apparitions of Our Lord to Saint Margaret Mary Alacoque in the 17th century. Jesus appeared to her and asked that the faithful receive Holy Communion on nine consecutive First Fridays of the month in a spirit of reparation for sins committed against His Sacred Heart.

To those who complete the nine First Fridays, Our Lord promised what is known as the Great Promise: the grace of final perseverance — that they would not die without receiving the sacraments necessary for salvation, and that His grace would not be lacking at the hour of death.

This devotion remains one of the most cherished expressions of love and reparation to the Sacred Heart, and is especially fitting during the month of June, when the Church honors the Sacred Heart of Jesus.

Jesus made the following special promises to St. Margaret Mary in favor of those who devoutly honor His Sacred Heart, in a spirit of reparation, on the first Friday of the month for nine consecutive months.

  1.  I will give them all the graces necessary in their state of life.
  2. I will establish peace in their homes.
  3. I will comfort them in all their afflictions.
  4. I will be their secure refuge during life, and above all, in death.
  5. I will bestow abundant blessings upon all their undertakings.
  6. Sinners will find in My Heart the source and infinite ocean of mercy.
  7. Lukewarm souls shall become fervent.
  8. Fervent souls shall quickly mount to high perfection.
  9. I will bless every place in which an image of My Heart is exposed and honored.
10. I will give to priests the gift of touching the most hardened hearts.
11. Those who shall promote this devotion shall have their names written in My Heart.
12. I promise you in the excessive mercy of My Heart that My all powerful love will grant to all those who receive Holy Communion on the First Fridays in nine consecutive months the grace of final perseverance; they shall not die in My disgrace, nor without receiving their sacraments. My divine Heart shall be their safe refuge in this last moment.

The Church grants a plenary indulgence to those who attend Mass and receive holy communion in honor of the Sacred Heart of Jesus on the First Friday of each month for nine (9) consecutive months.

First Friday Requirements:
To meet the requirements for the First Friday Devotion a person must, on each First Friday for nine consecutive months:

1. Attend Holy Mass
2. Receive Communion
3. Go to Confession

Join us every 1st Saturday for Adoration at St. Patrick Osage City.  We begin the day with Mass followed by adoration until 4:45 pm.  Stop by for a short visit or signup for an hour to spend with our Lord.

First Saturday Devotion

The Five First Saturdays devotion is one of the principal points of the Fatima message. It centers on the urgent need for mankind to offer reparation and expiate for the many injuries that the Immaculate Heart of Mary suffers from the hands of both impious and indifferent men.

On the First Saturday during 5 Consecutive Months, the Devotion consists of:

1. Going to Confession,
2. Receiving the Sacrament of Holy Communion,
3. Saying five decades of the Rosary,
4. Meditating for 15 minutes on the mysteries of the Rosary.

All this offered in REPARATION for the sins of blasphemy and ingratitude committed against the Immaculate Heart of Mary.

It has been over 150 years since St. Patrick parishes in Scranton and Osage City were founded. They have a beautiful legacy, created by parishioners like you throughout the decades.
